Meta - Quest 2 & Quest Pro Retail Experience

In 2022, Monks partnered with Meta to reimagine the in-store digital retail experience for the Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro VR headsets. Designed for global retail environments like Best Buy, the experience ranged from small touchscreens to large 50" TV displays, allowing customers to explore and learn about Meta’s VR innovations.

The front-end was built using ReactJS as a Single Page Application (SPA), integrating with backend API services to fetch content, product details, and localization data. A separate mobile web experience was also developed, enabling users to scan a QR code in stores and explore the headsets on their personal devices. While hosting and backend services were managed by another vendor, Monks delivered the UX strategy & design, UI design, motion & animation design, and front-end development, ensuring a seamless and engaging retail experience for users worldwide.

In my role as Technical Director, I oversaw the development and technical execution of the project, collaborating closely with the client and partner vendors to ensure a successful technical implementation and integration of all services and features. I occasionally performed code reviews and participated in technical solution planning, supporting the development team in strategizing the best possible technical solutions. Additionally, I conducted hands-on quality assurance testing on the physical in-store retail hardware, providing feedback to the development team to refine and optimize the final implementation. I also supported the project with ongoing technical resource allocation and planning, ensuring smooth execution and delivery.
