adidas - Locker Room

As the Technical Lead and Consultant for the adidas Locker Room project, I played a critical role in shaping the technical foundation of a new ecommerce platform for the adidas's Teams business unit. Spanning 2.5 years, including 1.5 years on-site at the adidas's Portland, Oregon headquarters, this initiative aimed to serve two distinct user groups: B2C consumers and B2B dealers, addressing their unique needs through tailored functionalities.

The platform delivered a public ecommerce experience for B2C consumers, enabling users to browse the adidas Team Gear Catalog, customize and embellish gear for their teams, and submit orders to dealers for fulfillment. For B2B dealers, a gated platform provided tools to browse the catalog, create and send proposals to teams, manage incoming orders, and submit purchase orders to adidas for fulfillment and embellishment.

As the Technical Lead, I was heavily involved in the project’s technical solution and architecture planning, including:

  • Microservice architecture to support scalable and modular development.
  • REST API design for seamless communication between services.
  • Frontend technology stack selection and implementation.
  • CI/CD pipeline configuration for efficient, reliable deployments.

At times, I also contributed hands-on to the development, coding features in ReactJS and ExpressJS, and creating detailed REST API documentation with Swagger.

In addition to my technical contributions, I oversaw and mentored a flexible team of 3-8 developers, ensuring high-quality work while fostering team collaboration and growth. I collaborated daily with adidas’s technical teams and leadership to align on feature requirements, priorities, and processes. This required effective use of SCRUM and Kanban methodologies, leveraging tools like Jira for project management and Confluence for documentation.

Beyond technical leadership, I took on additional project management responsibilities, collaborating across UX, UI, development, and business teams. This involved driving strategic alignment, improving processes, creating scopes and budget estimations for contract extensions, and fostering cross-functional collaboration to ensure all aspects of the project worked seamlessly together. My ability to integrate technical and project management roles was key to delivering an innovative platform that met the complex requirements of the initiative.

Through this close collaboration and technical leadership, the adidas Locker Room project successfully delivered an ecommerce solution that addressed the unique needs of both B2C and B2B users. The project’s success drove multiple multi-million-dollar contract extensions and solidified Monks' reputation as a trusted adidas partner.
